Default Best Friends (past)

Hope you don't mind me sharing this picture with you all, it's just that it was such a good one.

This is Chippie & Yogi

Chippie was a crossborder collie (full name Chippendale Chipmonk) which I adopted from the RSPCA when he was about 2yrs old, he had been found tied to their railings. He unfortunatley had to leave us 2yrs ago due to his hips giving in aged 17yrs

Yogi was our Rotti (full name Playful Yogi Bear) which I bought for Dave Christmas 1994. Though he didn't like other dogs to much he adored Chippie & was great with kids. He to unfortunately had to leave us 2yrs ago aged 9 1/2 due to a bone dissorder he had, had since a puppy.

Because Chippie was about 7yrs old when we got Yogi he always looked out for him and even helped to train Yogi as far as where to and where not to go to the toilet (like in the house).

They were very close friends to the extent if Dave, myself or anyone stroked Chippie, Yogi would lick the place where he had been stroked as if saying "he is my friend not yours, keep off". and removing your scent.

Chippie's favourite trick was when they had a chew each Chipp would bark like mad as if some one was at the door, then when Yogi ran to the door leaving his chew behind Chipp would run round and pinch it.

They were such good fun to watch together and as they got older the rols reversed where Yogi took over and looked after Chipp as Chipp had done for him when a puppy. Saying that though Chippie was still the boss.

There is so much more to say but would be here forever so will do it a bit at a time.

It would be great to hear about your past friends as these may not be in our sights but will forever be in our hearts

It sounds as if that was a match made in heaven. Thank you for sharing this picture and the story behind it.

Hey all,
I had up to 3yrs ago, a male Maltese named Button he had to be put to sleep as he had internal problems that couldn't be cured. He was my little baby boy and I loved him very dearly and still do, I'm actually crying as I type this. He was originally a gift from one of my sisters and her friend, to my dad as we lost our other little boy a year earlier at the age of 15.You see my dad had terminal cancer and they gave dad Button to take his mind off himself. And as usual Button bonded to both my dad and myself, so when my father passed away 9 yrs ago I got Button, and he was 3 yrs old at the time. But unfortunately once I got married a year later Button was only 9yrs old I had to get him put down as I couldn't bear watching him suffer, I wanted to remember him as he was not sick and in pain.It absolutely broke my heart to sit and hold him while the vet gave him THE shot and I'm not looking forward to having to do so again with the 7 girls I have now when their time comes. I think when all of them have gone I won't have anymore dogs for a little while, just for a break as it's all too painful. ...Heather.

Heather,

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I cried reading your post. I know this might not sound like much but really I am totally in fear of losing my two that I have now. When I found out no "real" children (as other poeple outside of the forum) for me, I got these two darling pups and they really have filled a void. I know Gidget has some medical problems and that is why we are on top of everything.

I know the feeling of loss with a beloved pet, and I agree sometimes a break is needed due to the pain. I want you to know that you are in the right place (the forum) for relief from your grief. We all are here for you anytime you need a shoulder.

Heather

It deffinately isn't easy letting go but I hope at least telling us about Buttons has helped maybe in a little way.

I know it helped me a bit by telling people who never new Chippie & Yogi about them.

Do you have any pictures?
