Default Collapsing trachea

Does anyone ele's dog have this problem? Gidget does and with the weather and all she has been a little worse than normal. The vet said she sounds great. I just worry about her. Dexter does not seem to have this trait which is awesome.

Beth,
Has Gidget been back to the vet for a recheck since her surgery? I'm a little confused didn't she have surgery to correct this problem?

Feel better Gidget!!!
Gotti sending back vibes for Gidget!!!

No surgery yet. She will most likely need it, maybe (you did read that from before). Right now the vet says she sounds good, considering her circumstances. He also mentioned it is a diet controlled reaction and a seasonal reaction at the moment. So far so good.

I just feel so bad for her I hope she doesn't suffer when she has attacks. She always comes to mommy when it starts, and I rub her neck and talk real soft to her so she has to focus on listening to me. (Try to take her mind off it)

Thanks Erica and Gotti, I passed the word onto her.

Her recent surgery was on her arm (front leg) a cyst was removed. But he checked her while she was out. He said right now she is ok. He did not want to put her through that at this time as it seems relatively controlled.

Hope she's feeling better soon.

If it does hurt I'm sure having you there makes it all better.

Beth,
I'm sorry I got it all wrong didn't I. I was looking at the old threads and I thought Gidget had the surgery for the trachea. I guess I must of read it wrong. It was 3:00a.m. when I read it...oops! I guess I overlooked about her cyst surgery. I was however looking up on the internet about collapsing trachea. I will post what I found I hope it helps.

Thank you Erica, it is very helpful. Our vet has not taken a chest x-ray of Gidget in a little while. I should ensure that we have one yearly.

That is ok that you read it differently about the surgery. I would have probably read it any other way than it was posted if I was up at that time in the morning.

How is Gotti? How is Xena?

Beth,
Gotti is doing great! His stitches are out now and he is pretty much back to normal. He has already put on 4 of the 15 pounds he had lost when he was sick! His incision still looks good and I'm just waiting for the hair to grow back now.

Xena on the other hand is still really sore. I went the other day and got her some Ascriptin (buffered asprin) to try to help her with her soreness. I have to be really careful to watch for side effects though because of her previous Rymidal reaction. I have also put her on a diet because when Gotti was sick she was eating her food and his food. So frankly she got fat which is no good for her hips. It seems she does better once she goes for a walk (we can't go too far with her right now) I think this helps her joints loosen up. My hubby and I were just talking last night that after the holiday weekend I will make a vet appointment for her to have her x-rayed again. I just know that they are going to tell us that we have to go back to Michigan State University for her to have a THR on the other hip. But then again we knew that was a good possibility when she had her right hip replaced two years ago. Oh well they say when it rains it POURS! Right now its just pouring VET BILLS at my house!

Erica, you poor thing. You are right, when it rains it pours, in all aspects of the saying. I know there myself. We just had to replace both of our cars.

Does the Glucosemine help at all to help warm up the joints a little for Xena? You know I am here for you if you need to vent, cry or anything, right?

I know Gidget needs to lose a little too, for that matter so does mom. I am trying with Gidget because like the article said, weight does play a large factor in this situation.

Let us know what is going on with the vet visit.
