| Read the following post. I found it online. It was written as a JOKE ... What's wrong with it?? Please help!!!! After two long years of being on a waiting list for an agility dog, we have been notified by the breeder that, at long last, our number has come up and ...WE ARE HAVING A PUPPY!!! We must get rid of our children IMMEDIATELY because we just know how time consuming our new little puppy is going to be and it just wouldn't be fair to the children. Since our little puppy will be arriving on Monday we MUST place the children into rescue this weekend! They are described as: One male - His name is Tommy, Caucasian (English/Irish mix), light blonde hair, blue eyes. Four years old. Excellent disposition. He doesn't bite. Temperament tested. Does have problems with peeing directly in the toilet. Has had chicken Pox and is current on all shots. Tonsils have already been removed. Tommy eats everything, is very clean, house trained & gets along well with others. Does not run with scissors and with a little training he should be able to read soon. One female - Her name is Lexie, Caucasian (English/Irish mix), strawberry blonde hair, green eyes quite freckled. Two years old. Can be surly at times. Non-biter, thumb sucker. Has been temperament tested but needs a little attitude adjusting occasionally. She is current on all shots, tonsils out, and is very healthy & can be affectionate. Gets along well with other little girls & little boys but does not like to share her toys and therefore would do best in a one child household. She is a very quick learner and is currently working on her house training-shouldn't take long at all. We really do LOVE our children so much and want to do what's right for them; that is why we contacted a rescue group. But we simply can no longer keep them. Also, we are afraid that they may hurt our new puppy. I hope you understand that ours is a UNIQUE situation and we have a real emergency here!!! They MUST be placed into your rescue by Sunday night at the latest or we will be forced to drop them off at the orphanage or along some dark, country road. Our priority now has to be our new puppy. Whats wrong?? Is sounds absoluty CRAZY to do this to your child/children when getting a new pet, Right?? So then what makes it RIGHT to do it to an animal when a child comes along?? The sad thing is, people do this to their pets everyday ...

| AMEN!!!! Stacey. You are one hundred percent correct. It is not a joke. If I had the room and yard for it, I probably would have tons of rescue pets all at one time.

| No, it is not a joke at all. People do this everyday to their pets. They think 'It is just an animal, what do they care where they live?' It angers me that they can just 'GIVE UP their pets ... My father has a dog (Like your dogs Beth, a Bichon), named Mimmo. He was adopted from the Toronto Humane Society. He was almost 5 years old. The family had given him up because in 2 months they were going to have a baby and the wife felt she couldn't handle the baby and the dog ... I have 3 cats and 1 dog. They are alot of work. But never would I dream of getting rid of any of them if I were to have a child. Here in Mississauga, we have a website where you can post if you are looking to get rid of your animals, or looking for a new pet. The majority of the posts are "Free to a good home" People willing to give their pet away to the first person that calls. In my opinion, if they insist on getting rid of them, they should at least charge a small fee. People tend to care more for the things in life that 'cost them money.' And interview each and every person that calls to inquire about the pet! Am I wrong in thinking that??

| I am sorry !!!! But familys who have pet's than get ride of them because they are haveing a new baby should not be pet owners to start with.My daugther and her husband are the owners of 4 rescue animals 2 cats and 2 very large dogs. Last December they welcomed there first child. The dogs are wonderful with my grandson. I also have 3 large dogs and 4 cats and I babysit twice a week and my animals are no problem. So why can't other people blend ther pets with babys.

| The family had given him up because in 2 months they were going to have a baby and the wife felt she couldn't handle the baby and the dog ... Stacey, I am Dar's daughter and I agree with you 110%. You can see from my avatar that I have 2 very large dogs. We welcomed our son in December and he is now 7months old. I'm not going to say it wasn't an adjustment bringing our son home from the hospital but there was no way my dogs were going anywhere. People that knew I had the dogs would ask me when I was pregnant "What are you going to do when the baby comes?". I would tell them absolutely nothing. Everyone will get along just fine. They don't have a choice. Its called supervision...I understand a new baby is alot of work. Trust me...I am learning more and more everyday. But people need to still pay attention to their pets too and not whimp out from the previous responsibilities that they already took on. (their pets) Expecially if the pets were there first. Erica |

| I won't mention any names, but someone Private Messaged me with some not so good words about this post. Just to clear this up .. My father did not give up the dog to the humane society ... He was the one that adopted him FROM the humane society. The family that dropped him off there were the ones having the baby ... I had people PM me asking why my father gave up his dog ... that was not the case! Is it clear now? I probaly should have explained it better!

| It was clear to me Stacey, but thanks for clearing up anyway I don't know you very well, but I DO know you're a big animal lover and I don't think you would allow such a thing to happen (IF it was the other way around and your father were the one who was giving up on the dog, you would probably be the one who adopted him)

| Stacey, it was clear to me too, maybe that person/s just misread. Thank you for clearing it up further though. I agree that if people have to pay for things they take care of it, however, that is a usually in today's society. I agree also with interviewing and making sure this is a good placement. I get extremely angry with people like that who gave up a dog because she was having a baby. So she will only have one baby, what happens when/if she gets pregnant again, is she going to give up the first one because she can not handle one baby and one toddler? She really made my blood boil. Dar and Erica, thank you very much for being your pups and cats heros! I also want to say thank you to your dad Stacey for being Mimmo's hero. We need more people like you versus this type of person (meaning the woman in the story.) Sorry I ranted but that makes me very angry. How dare she?!?!?!

| I agree 100% with this post. It is like some people get pets to practice on till the real children come along or something. Like they think animals are disposable. I could never give up on my Furrkid, he did not come knocking on my door and ask for me to give him a place to stay I went and picked him. When he looks at me it is with such loyalty and trust, I could not let him down. It hurts me to hear of other animals being mistreated. If I had the room I would have more, but I am responsible enough to know this is what I can take care of now. If I had a child though Snickers would still and always will be a member of the family. I read and understood the post about Mimmoe also. Thanks for taking the time to reiterate though. |
