WASHINGTON (AP) A dry pet food is being recalled amid concern over animal food contamination.

Hill's Pet Nutrition is calling back its Prescription Diet m/d Feline dry cat food. The company says it contains wheat gluten from the same supplier that triggered recalls and investigations of pet foods manufactured by Menu Foods.

Meanwhile, the Food and Drug Administration says it found a chemical used to make plastics in samples of pet foods from Menu, that are involved in the original recall. The F-D-A says the chemical, melamine, was also found in imported wheat gluten used in the company's wet-style products.

But the F-D-A says it found no trace of a cancer drug also used as rat poison. Experts in New York state say their tests found that substance.

I swear to God I don't think I can take much more of this. The Pet's Pride is what I had been feeding Molly. Since she didn't like the gravy part, I would drain that off for the cats. They loved it. I immediately stopped feeding this to them when the recall started. Molly never did show any signs of being sick. Diggy on the other hand, about a month ago, went thru a period of not eating. She vomited up what she did eat. She's a finicky eater and a long haired kitty with lots of furballs, so I wasn't in a panic. I WAS concerned tho. I was going to take her to the dr, but that day she started eating everything in sight and started acting perfectly normal again, so I didn't take her and she's been fine since. I'm wondering if some of the gravy I feed her was tainted. BUT the other cats ate it and so did Molly and they were all fine and have been fine. I'm still cooking for Molly because of her allergies. I'm very limited on the commercial food I can feed her. It's hard to find treats and food that doesn't contain ANY kind of soy products. The kitties eat Purina One Urinary Tract formula and Purina, or Friskies wet. Molly is eating like a gourmet. I was worried she wasn't getting proper nutrition so she also takes doggy vitamins. And she gets 8oz of skim milk a day. She's looking REALLY good. HIGH energy, she's 8, her coat is shiny and soft and her tear stains are GONE!

Thanks Tammy for posting about the Hills food. I saw tonight on the 10pm news they are checking into the Hills Dry Dog Food too and that P.I.T.A. want's a total recall. I did find out that KIBBLES N BITS DOG FOODS ARE NOT MADE BY MENU FOODS AND THEY ARE ALL SAFE TO USE.... ALSO 9 LIVES CAT FOOD IS ALSO SAFE...

As you know this pet food recall has been NUTS!!! This is why I haven't been able to post. Work has been so busy!! Right now the only perscription food is Hills feline m/d. If any of you have cats on this food you should ask your vet about switching their food to Purina d/m. It is a similar food that is made by a different manufacture. Purina has only been affected by the recall with the Mighty Dog pouches and cans only. Also make sure to watch your pet for any of the following symptoms...
Diahrrea, Vomiting, inactive, excessive drinking. If you are concerned about your pet if it has been exposed to recalled food ask your vet about doing a urinallysis and running some blood work. These tests can help your vet determine if your pet has been affected.
Hope this help!
