Default Cat Food Bowls

I have a question for those of you with both cats and dogs!

Where do you keep the cat food bowls??

I have to keep mine on the kitchen table!! If not, Raven gobbles all the cats food before eating her own. They are my cats and I KNOW they are clean. They never go outside so I don't mind them jumping on the kitchen table when they are ready for a meal!! I am constantly wiping and cleaning the table, so I didn't think it was a problem ...
Is this an inappropriate place to keep them?!?
Any other ideas??

My mom bought a microwave stand from Walmart and when she has the dogs over Lestatt (her cat) likes to sit up there anyway to tease the dogs, he likes it up there. She has a spot in the corner of the pantry to place the cart when it is not totally in use. That way if you have guests they are not on the table and that they can consider theirs.

Now because I do not have a cat, but we cat-sit when my mom goes out of town for one week twice a year. I leave it out so that Lestatt knows we are coming for the length that it is out. I put it away the last night we go to visit before his mom comes home.

Being an animal person it would not phase me if the cat(s) were on the table, but some people seem to mind. I say they just don't understand!

I don't mind them being on the table. We never use it We always eat our meals on TV trays in the livingroom. If we ever have guests over for dinner I remove the cat food bowls. I would never make a guest eat at a table that has cat food on it ... and if we are at the table the kitties know they are not allowed on the table! My friend says "Who cares what other people think, it is your house .." But she also has 3 cats that sleep on the table, so she totally understands!!
True I guess in one sense, but I also want to make it as comfortable as possible for guests that come to visit. I don't mind so much when my family visits because they know my motto "My house and owned and operated solely for the comfort of the animals" - As you would know by my signature!!!!!

Calvin has his own room upstairs where I have his litter box, his food and water and his scratching pole.

He jumps on the kitchen table as well (he's allowed to go anywhere in my house and jump on all furniture), but he doesn't eat or drink there. I also make him go off the table when I eat, as I don't want him to eat from my plate
He just likes to lay there, probably because it's higher than the floor I guess.

Regarding the inappropriate part.. A lot of people would think it's inappropriate probably (especially the ones without pets - I've learned they find a lot of things inappropriate when it comes to pets), but then again..it's your house, you keep the table clean..and you had to find a solution for Raven. Plus, you don't mind yourself..and that's the most important.

If you happen to have another table (or something else that they can jump on, like a dryer or washing machine maybe?) in your house that you don't use to eat from, I would probably try to feed the cats from that table. For example, I have a table in my work room where I keep some papers and a radio..I would rather have my cat eat there as apposed to the kitchen table.

Well, there you go..you don't eat from the kitchen table and remove the cat food when you have guests. Sounds good to me

Stacey,
One of my cats I swear lives on my kitchen table. With having two large dogs he feels more comfortable on the "high road" I guess. He thinks the kitchen table is his domain. My husband and I are like you and eat most of our meals in the living room infront of the TV. But if we do have guests I have the luxury of a formal dining room. I do feed my dogs in the kitchen (as one of my dogs is a mastiff and that is where it is easiest to clean up the drool!) But my cats I feed in the basement near their area with the litter box. My cats have free run of the house but I only allow the dogs in the basement under supervision so that they don't get into and eat the cat food.

Talking Re: Cat Food Bowls

I have 2 self feeders in my kitchen one for the dogs and one for the cats. I keep the cat feeder between the fridg and the dishwasher with a kitchen chair over it. My dogs are large so they can't fit under to get the food. Every once in a while they will eat each others food but not too often...

I am not that lucky. I live in an apartment. It is a pretty big place, but I only have the Diningroom ... The kitchen is not big enough to have a table in there I know it doesn't look good for the cats to be on the table, but what can I do?!?

It sounds like you are worrying about this and I am wondering why? You keep the table clean, the cats are clean and your guests are not inconvenienced. Did someone make a comment that is making you doubt yourself? I really hope you tell them nicely that it really doesn't concern them and if you have to show them all the replies on here.

I am a little worried. I am not bothered by it, but I guess I am a little concerned what my guests are saying when they leave. I always remove the bowls when there are guests here (except when family comes because they know me and what comes first in my house) But sometimes, the guests get in the door before I have a chance to remove them. I just wanted some opinions on it I guess.
OK, I will stop worrying now!!
