Default Who feeds their pets

"Gourmet" dog food versus grocery store bought food?

We go to a pet supply store and we use Snsible Choice. We used to buy Eukeneuba (sp?) and my dogs didn't make a whole lot of dents in it. This Sensible Choice they gobble up. They prefer the lamb and rice the best. My vet asked me to bring in the bag so he could look over the ingredients, he stated it was a good choice and if my two eat it, then continue using it. If they ever stop eating it, he recommends trying Science Diet.

What do you use? Has anyone else started out buying the really expensivee stuff and then switched to non-expensive food?

I feed my pets Eukeneuba. Smokey has a really sensitive bladder and any other brand of food gives her an infection. We have tried all sorts of food .. But this is the only kind that we can allow Smokey to have. Smokey used to have an infection once a month and she was VERY uncomfortable when it occured (as you can imagine) With the help of our vet and lots of medication we experimented with alot of different foods, and this is the one that treats her the best!
Since I have 3 cats, it is hard trying to give them different kinds of food so I just give them all the same kind. Raven (our dog) eats Eukeneuba as well!

I feed Jake Royal Canin as it was recommended by The Great Dane Adoption Society when we got him.

They found when they started feeding their dogs this the of dogs they lost to bloat decreased dramatically.

Though he ate only this when at the adoption society he now has it with cornedbeef & gravy for breakfast then for tea he has Royal Canin with steamed chicked fillet & gravy.

For supper he has Rivita with with beef & ham paste on it.

He also likes pepperoni though he only gets a very small piece and home baked bread with honey on it.

I feed Calvin Royal Canin Indoor, it's made for indoor cats like the name says.

It's expensive, but the vet recommended it and I buy it at a wholesale/barn and in a big bag, so I get a good discount compared to the local pet stores here

My sister feeds her cat with less expensive food (both wet and dry), from a supermarket.

I'm not sure if it makes a big difference, but I just want to be sure Calvin gets all the ingredients he needs.

Sensible Choice is the sister company to Royal Canine, basically made by the same people just named it different. My dogs love it and mine can be quite finicky.

I know if you have a Pet World store anywhere near you it is less expensive there. We get a 25 pound bag and that lasts us around 2.5 months. Keep in mind I feed two dogs. They each get a cup a day, but if they eat all of it, I will definately put a little extra out so they don't starve. (If they are anything like me they will have an allergy to starvation.)

I hope no one was offended when I mentioned my dogs did not do well with the Eukaneuba (sp), I think they just prefer the taste of Sensible Choice as they seem to like it better.

I feed Science Diet, Nutro, Iams. and I through in a bag of Old Roy. Mix it together and fill the self feeder. Then once a day I give each dog 2 cans of dog food as a treat. Then there is always the table scraps. Talking about spoiled...
