Default Animal toxins

http://www.vet.purdue.edu/depts/addl/toxic/plant42.htm

I wanted to let all of you know over the weekend I had to take my mastiff in to the vet office emergency. His symptoms were vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite and listlessness. They kept him overnight and didn't really seem to know what it was that made him so sick. Checked his blood and took stomach x-rays, everything was good. However I am pretty sure I solved the mystery tonight and wanted to pass on this information. Apparently we had a poisonous weed growing in our yard behind our garage called nightshade. I had never heard of this before and decided to look it up on the internet. So I have posted the link to a site showing all of you what it looks like and giving you information as to the symptoms of illness it can cause in not just dogs but all animals and humans if consumed. I happen to live in the city and have stumbled upon this from what I understand it is more common in a rural area...woods, fields...ect. Please take the time to check out the information on this site. I know it is lengthy but well worth it!!

Erica

Talking Re: Animal toxins

I told Erica about Nightshade weeks ago when I saw it growing by her front gate. Well she got rid of that but did'nt look behind the garage. So Gotti got into it. So it was hi ho hi ho it's off to the vet we go at 11pm on a Friday night. We have one of the best vets in Michigan Dr. Wilson. He does alout of work with animal rescues and a 24 hour staffed hospital. Now Gotti is doing much better now that Erica found the other weed.

Thank God Gotti is ok. And hopefully you got ALL of the weed out of your yard.
Thanks for the information.

Erica thank you so much for pointing this out and for both you and Dar giving those extremely helpful sites.

I am so glad to hear that Gotti is well and doing better. My goodness that is absolutely horrible.

I have some but it is far in the front of the yard and I always pull it anyway because it chokes out your other plants. My babies are only in the backyard (it is a bigger area) and there is none there, I double checked just after reading this post.

Give Gotti a big hug from us! Again thank you for the very important information!

Thanks for your kind words. Just to let all of you know Gotti is doing much better now. He hasn't vomited in a couple of days and he is starting to get his appetite back.
