Default This BURNS me UP

http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/...?petid=6651597

I am sure some of you saw that my mother-in-law recently had to put her dog down because of liver cancer. I posted it under the pet cancer thread. She wants to adopt a new dog. She called on London (see link above). Now just to give you a little background... She is 61 years old and has had a total of 5 dogs in the past. One lived to 15, one to 14 one had to be put down at 3 because he had really bad epilepsy and his seizures eventually got out of control. Then her last 2 both had to be put down around 7 because of cancer. She also watches my son for a couple of hours twice a week. Mind you she also had some of these dogs during the time that she was raising her 3 boys.

This is the part where I get irritated and so did she...
She called on this dog yesterday and ofcourse while she was watching my son he began to fuss a little. So the worker heard this in the phone and asked about it. My mom-in-law explains that it is her grandson and that she watches him twice a week. Then the worker said "oh, your a grandma" and proceeds to ask her how old she is...mind you the worker stated that she was 58 years old (only 3 years younger than my mom-in-law). Then tells her that "she doesn't think that she is a good canidate to adopt London because of her age and the fact that she babysits twice a week. Now mom's getting upset and explains to the worker that her son and I own a 170lb mastiff and a 90lb rottie and that his other grandma (Dar) owns a mastiff, husky and great dane. So the baby is around large dogs constantly. The worker then proceeded to tell her that maybe she should be looking for an older dog. Mom had a point when she explained that an older dog would be set in its ways and may not adjust to a baby as well as a young pup. I am so mad because this dog lost out on an excellent home. Am I over reacting? Rescues are suppost to help animals find good homes and this lady really blew it! She wouldn't even give mom the time of day!

I agree with you Erica. I would be FURIOUS and NO, you are not over reacting. I would have to put in my 2 cents (for what its worth) to the lady that your mother-in-law spoke to.
Tell your mother in law not to give up! She has a right, as anyone else, to give London a great home, Age nor grandchildren should NOT be a factor.
If I were her, I would call and ask to speak to someone if possible!

Erica I would have also put my two cents in but if you knew me thats not out of the ordinary I can't keep my mouth shut when it comes to things like this when I am set in my ways or convinced someone else is wrong I don't stop this woman has no right pretty much picking who can come over to visit your mom who does she think she is any way?
Sounds to me like If I had pups I would love to give your Mom one she sounds like she would take better care of the pup than some other person.
To bad for London though SOME PEOPLE make you wonder Good luck to your Mom

I agree with everyone here..sounds like your mother-in-law is a perfect candidate for London and they should be happy with her call.

I would also try a second time, maybe tomorrow, your mother-in-law might catch her in a better mood, or someone else on the phone. If she reacts the same, it might help to call her up personally and let her know how good your mother in law is with dogs?

So many homeless pet's. This foster mom would have had a great placement for London If she would have just took the time to interview Viv. Instead The lady coped a additude. I know Viv and her dog which she lost to cancer.I hope someone from that rescue see's these posts. I have a good mind to call the rescue and have a word with the person in charge. Look's to me that the foster mom want's to keep London for her self....

Erica,

Your poor mother-in-law definately deserves that puppy London, who by the way is adorable! I would have shot of at the mouth to give this snit a piece of my mind.

You are absolutely not wrong with being upset about this. I am furious as hell right now hearing about this. To me that woman basically verbally abused your mother-in-law by belittling her in her own way.

Please have your mother in law call back and ask to speak with the manager. If the woman who she talked to was the manager I would report her to the better business bureau.

It is high time people who are just mean and stupid deserve to be treated with a little bit of their own medicine.

Sorry I vented off like that but man that definately has me steaming!

Beth,
Oh you think you vented! I had to calm down before I typed the story or it would have all been censored!!

And to everyone else,
Thank you for understanding my venting about this situation. I didn't think that I was overreacting, but it always helps to get a second, third and many opinions! I am going to pass on everyone's advice and let her decide what she wants to do.

I just don't understand these rescue organizations. Maybe I am bitter because I had a heck of a time getting Gotti. One foster mom approved me then they moved him to another even farther away. Then the other foster mom didn't want to give him to me after the papers were signed and money was paid! Then they tried to tell me that the president or who ever she was in the organization wanted him put down for aggression, and she wasn't even in the state of Michigan!!! Well when I finally picked him up the truth came out. The second set of foster parents wanted to keep him!
