| It seems that the world is becoming such a dangerous place not just for people, but for animals as well. With wars waging in many places around the globe and natural calamities happening everywhere else, who looks after the animals? Here in Southeast Asia, where we are constantly bombarded with typhoons, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, it is worrisome that very little information about animal welfare gets around. I'm just hoping that our community leaders make this a matter of discussion in board meetings, otherwise, concerned citizens like ourselves, are left to our own devices. Hopefully, animal welfare groups and organizations such as PETA, continue to inform us through newsletters, even through their websites about the on-going efforts (if any), on how they plan to go about helping stranded animals in these troubled spots. If not for them, how else, would any help be initiated to rescue them? |

| You have got an excellent point. I know in the states there are organizations that help. Like when hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans there were animal organizations that assisted in animal recovery, like the ASPCA and other animal rescue organizations. They set up websites to help owners be reunited with their beloved pets. I can only hope that other countries have similar organizations that are willing to help them. Erica P.S. | I hope the same..I'm donating monthly to an organization that helps the animals in parts of the world where animal rights don't seem to exist. I've seen a movie on internet once..I had to stop it after 10 seconds because I couldn't look any longer..it was terrible. Shocking things happen to animals in our part of the world, but it's often much worse in other places. I have no idea who looks after the animals in Israel, Libanon and other parts of the world. Like Erica said, I can only hope the organizations are helping the animals in need.

| Thank you very much for bringing this to our attention. I hope this will help expand these organizations to other parts of the world now that more and more people are alerted to the problems (and I am combining cruelty into the word problem, because that is what it is.) I am now going to start looking up and researching some of this too. Welcome to the forum!

| It such a sad, sad, situation when very few among the citizenry care. I keep abreast of Peta's activities here in the Philippines where I'm from and Mr. Jason Baker, Regional Director for Peta, Asia-Pacific (based in Manila) has said that he is flying to Lebanon personally through Syria to oversea rescue and evacuation efforts. It's a very dangerous job, really and we have to commend people who dedicate their lives in efforts like these. |

| http://www.oipa.org/appelli/abandonment_lebanon.htm This is what straightlaced was talking about!! I found a petition concerning including animals in evactuations. I thought I would share incase anyone wants to sign. This is one of the national organizations that are trying to help! http://www.oipa.org/ This is another international site with more information. This is the site where I found the petition! And there are others to be signed if you are interested. Maybe this can help educate us better on this subject. Erica |

| Erica, Thank you so very much for that link. I have copy and pasted it and forwarded it to everyone I know and asked they sign the petition and forward it to all of their friends. Hopefully we will see some changes and soon. This is something not to be ignored. I hope they (all the people the email signed petition is going to) are totally bombarded with an overabundence of emails and they get a hint. I think too many people turn a blind eye not wanting to know also. Many of the people on that list of where it is going to be email too are pet owners, maybe this will tug at the heart strings they have.
