| As some of you may know..my daughter Kelly is expecting a baby next summer..she told me recently that she read in some "expectant mother" book..that you are not supposed to take baths while you are pregnant. So Im conducting a poll on this.

| I've heard it shouldn't be a hot bath.. or you shouldn't get into a hot tub while your pregnant. I wonder if it has anything to do with slipping and falling?? I took baths while I was pregnant.. my back hurt and that always made it feel better. I found this on the web A big awkward tummy, aching bones and joints, swollen ankles … it’s hard to get comfortable when you are expecting! It seems unfair to think that, on top of all the aches and pains, you can’t even take a hot bath. Many people believe that pregnant women should avoid hot baths because of the potential harm they can cause to an unborn child. While it is true that hot water can cause problems in a pregnancy, there is nothing wrong with taking a warm bath. It can help to relax your aching muscles and rest your tired, swollen feet. A warm bath is a welcome treat for any weary mom or mom-to-be. Once your water breaks you should not take a bath of any kind. Before that point, you can enjoy as much bathing as you would like, as long as the water temperatures do not exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Some would call 100 degrees a hot bath! So kick your feet up, lay back and relax … you deserve it! This is also an interesting site.. somethings, yes?? somethings, no?? http://www.bygpub.com/natural/pregnancy.htm

| I think you should buy her a current pregnancy book for Christmas. I think the one she has is a bit old. Old Wives Tale. It was once considered true, because of infection fears, but taking baths has been proven to be safe. They used to be worried that taking a bath would cause an infection that could be passed onto the baby. But then they found out that if you are taking a normal bath, it just doesn't occur because the water doesn't make contact with that part of your body. They are still concerned about HOT water raising the core body temperature and the heat damaging the unborn child. http://pregnancyandbaby.com/pregnanc...s-safe-285.htm http://www.ehow.com/how_4337_bath-pregnant.html http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/blbathing.htm

| When I was pregnant I took hot baths because I have a compressed fracture at L1 (the biggest vertebrae at your mid section) & that is the only relief I had for the pains in my back, butt & legs. I only took hot ones later in my pregnancy though. I was huge both times so my stomach was way above the water level so much so I'd hold my book on my stomach & read while soaking. Both my kids turned out just fine. But, then again, this MIGHT account for late occurrence of stupidity in my 19 year old son.
