| Hi all Ok this may be a dumb question, horses have a tendancy to rub/scratch their heads on me when I get off them after a lesson. Is this a good or bad thing and what does it mean? Thanks ![]() |

| It's been a while since I had a horse, but I believe it's a sign of affection.

| Hi There It is also a while since I owned a horse but I do remeber that the head rubbing can become damaging to both you and the horse especially should the bridle get caught or something you are weraing cause damage. I found this hope it helps, its a bit long to read but may just answer your question http://www.horse-sense.org/archives/headrub.htm

| That makes complete sense. Although, it might be "cute" that the horse is giving you affection when he rubs against you.. that might not be what's on his mind. I suppose it's like with any other animal (except cats, as soon as you have an answer for a cat the question changes) you have to be regarded as top dog (head horse).

| Gail, excellent horse info! I do remember teaching them to move away whenever I decided to push on their should or hindquarters. They never seemed to know when they were standing on my feet, and made it much quicker to get them off, and prevented a lot of foot injuries, too. They don't get on it too hard before your reflexes kick in. I didn't know that I was also stating myself as the herd leader, too.

| Oh I definitely agree you have to show them whos boss, but it is also nice to know that your horse is affectionate towards you though you do have to be careful you or the horse doesn't get injured in the process, casue I know all too well with these two horses it quiet sore when they rub they're head on me and because they are school horses its quiet hard to teach them otherwise. ![]()
