Default Do not feed

When we first moved down here to Savannah from Indiana I wanted to go and find some alligators. You know - being from the north - I was curious about them in the wild. We went to this refuge right outside of the downtown area and drove and drove around that place and couldn't find any alligators - there were a lot of neat looking weird birds. Well we were getting to the end of the road right before you pull out on the main road and there was one little side dirt path so I told my husband to turn down that road. There were some wetlands and a lot of trees and finally I saw some baby alligators laying on floating wood in the water. I got out of the truck & tried to take some pictures of them but they weren't turning out so I asked Jack to do it - well he got out of the truck and heard this hissing sound - he turned to see what the heck was hissing at him and this mommy alligator was coming toward him. I never saw him move so fast - he was jumping back in that truck and cursing like crazy I'm like - what? what? Then I leaned over and looked out his window and saw mommy gator - guess she wasn't happy we were there. He was standing only about 3-5 feet from her.

We don't see too many alligators - they seem to not want to be around people any more than we want to be around them. There are 2 things I don't like about living in the south - sand gnats (they bite) & Palmetto bugs (they are huge - VW sized roaches). The gnats come out when the weather is perfect outside (in the 70s & 80s) and the roaches get inside and are so gross - Chutney loves to roach hunt and we find dead ones in the mornings from her night hunting.
