Sam, doing better - Added: 09/18/2006

Sam, doing better
“This is Sam, the kitty I posted with the story of how he was abandoned with his mama and littermates in a vacant apartment. Since he was so small, and kind of skinny when I got him, I had thought I'd wait a litle bit, get a little more weight on him, and get him a tad stronger before getting his kitten shots started. BIG mistake. I volunteer at the local city animal shelter, and although I am always careful to take my shoes off outside when I return home, and I disinfect my hands, I didn't realize how easy it can be to bring home illnesses to my pets, like Feline Distemper. Sam fell ill...VERY ill, and spent almost 4 days in the hospital, hooked to an i.v., and almost didn't make it. Don't do what I did! Get your pets' early vaccines taken care of,, and be extra cautious of your clothes and shoes if you've been handling other animals. I almost lost my baby because of this mistake, and distemper is a nasty, nasty disease that can remain in your furniture, carpets, etc for literally years, making any future pets at risk as well. P.S.: Sam is back home, eating like crazy, doing 100% better and is back to his playful, "terror of the house" ways. :)” - Spirit (Rhonda B.)

"excellent advice. I am so glad he made it through. Sometimes the good out of a bad situation in this circumstance is that you are able to possibly keep other animals well by sharing your experience. He's a lucky pet to have you. Happy tails to you!!!"

"Thank goodness Sam is back on the road to good health. I am sure this horrible experience will bond the two of you even closer. Thank you for stressing the importance of getting their shots. I have been putting my cats shots off for the past two weeks. Not anymore! I don't know that Max will thank you:) but his mom sure does. God Bless"
