"You can't show a merle in AKC because it's not a recognized color in the breed standard. Blue, Black, Fawn, Harlequin, Brindle and Mantle are the only colors you can show.
It's not recognized partially because they don't want people to breed for it. While it is beautiful, if you breed two merles together you run an incredibly high risk of getting white dogs (it's a genetic thing). White danes are usually deaf, blind or both, sometimes with other accompanying health issues.
Yours is beautiful though. Hope you guys have a lot of happy years together."

"Hi there, Your Molly, she is so adorable. I have to say that I am very lucky, because I am getting a merle great dane in a couple of weeks. He is just about the same colors as Molly. "I had a Mollygirl. I just lost her in July to bloat. A real threat to these precious dogs. Your Molly is beautiful. I had male merle, lost him to hip displaysia, his name was Apollo.
